PRESS RELEASE – The Lounge at Wesley United Methodist Church was the setting for the Taine Club Christmas luncheon. Helene Moog and Georgetta Kuhman prepared the food and planned the program.

President Jackie Boyd opened with sharing the poem, “Keeping Christmas” by Henry Van Dyke taken from the book, The Gift of Christmas.

After the meal, the members assembled in the seating area for the program. The club theme, “The Gift of Friendship” was presented by exploring the special friendship of Lucille Ball and Vivian Vance, better known as “Lucy and Ethel” from the classic TV program “I Love Lucy.”

Wearing Lucy and Ethel T-shirts, Moog and Kuhman used several TV clips from the program and later other TV talk shows to highlight their relationship, which developed from the beginning in 1951 until Vance’s death in 1979.

Although the original “I Love Lucy” program was filmed in black and white, a colorized version of its Christmas episode was aired in prime time in 2013, 62 years after it premiered.

The premise of the episode was “It Isn’t Christmas Without Your Friends” and the ending scenes were shared.

Members were asked to think about special friends in their lives who are important not only during the Christmas season, but all year long and what a gift they are in our lives.
