WAUSEON (April 12, 2025) — The Wauseon Indians set the tone on Saturday with a fast start as they sprang out to a dominating lead and never gave it up, in an 11-6 win over Tinora.
The matchup featured a steady offensive output from Wauseon, who capitalized on timely hitting and early momentum to stay in control, despite Tinora’s push in the later innings.
The Indians wasted no time at all asserting themselves and were able to score two runs in the bottom of the first and a whopping six more in the second.
Bella McGuire’s bat was hot from the very start—she finished the game with three hits, including a home run and four RBIs.
Meanwhile, the Rams struggled to find footing early in the game, giving up nine runs in the first two innings. By the end of the third, Wauseon was ahead 8-1.
Slowly but surely, Tinora began to make a comeback in the top of the fourth with Billings drawing a walk and eventually scoring, but Wauseon’s defense held strong.
The Rams continued to chip away in the fifth, pushed forward by a double from Paige Gamby and a towering two-run homer by Madison Spangler to left field.
Karly Carpenter followed with a single, and Billings added yet another hit, driving in a run. Though Tinora trimmed the deficit to 10-4, the Indians’ early advantage gave them plenty of breathing room.
In the top of the sixth, Wauseon stretched their lead further as McGuire doubled and came around to score, giving them an 11-4 lead. Tinora was quiet in the bottom half, with Wauseon’s Shelbi Leija holding them hitless throughout the sixth.
The Rams attempted one last push in the seventh. Carpenter hit a single, and Billings followed with a home run—her second hit of the day—to cut the deficit to five. Zoe Roesti and KC Knapp added base hits, but Wauseon ended the game with a groundout.
