PETTISVILLE (January 9, 2026) – The Fayette Eagles took an immediate lead and extended it to a 22-point win in Pettisville against the Blackbirds Friday night.

Fayette senior Addison Schang quickly became a highlight of play, scoring the first basket of the game and back-to-back steals for breakaway layups on the way to a score of 8-2 with freshman Madison Miller putting in the Blackbird basket.

A trey from senior Becca Strauss and a pair of free throws wrapped up Pettisville scoring for the quarter, while the Eagles would benefit from a pair of baskets from sophomore Kennedy Kunkle and a three from sophomore Monroe Simon on the way to a score of 17-7.

The second quarter started fast, with back-to-back baskets from Strauss, Kunkle, and Strauss again. A free throw from Miller and another Strauss basket for the Blackbirds were matched by a pair of free throws and a trey from Kunkle that brought the halftime score to 24-14.

Fayette came out of halftime energized, going on a 15-point run including a three from senior Kelsie Storrs, a pair of baskets each from Kunkle and senior Mesa Gorsuch, and a basket each from Schang and senior Willow Mitchell, Schang’s on a breakaway.

A free-throw showdown ensued over the remainder of the quarter, with Pettisville putting in eight across five appearances to Fayette’s two in one. A steal and basket from Fayette freshman Ally Kessler wrapped up the quarter at 44-24.

After a basket from Miller and a pair of free throws from Kunkle, Schang went on her own seven-point run with a free throw and three buckets, giving the Eagles their biggest lead of the game at 53-26.

A pair of Blackbird free throws were followed up by a steal by sophomore Hannah Fox, who got the ball to sophomore Baylee Tietje for three. Fayette responded with a pair of Kessler free throws.

Pettisville came back swinging, with three tries before drawing a foul. After both free throws were missed, freshman Maggie Ripke stole the ball back and missed a shot but drew a foul, making one of her two free throw attempts to earn just one point from all the activity.

Fayette freshman Shelby Phillips put in a basket and free throw to put up the last points for the Eagles and was followed up by a basket from Ripke for the Blackbirds.

Schang paced Fayette (9-3, 2-0 BBC) with 19 and Kunkle tallied 17. The Eagles were 20 of 51 from the floor shooting and owned a 42-29 advantage on the boards.

Strauss was the lone Blackbird (6-8, 2-1 BBC) in double figures with 11.
