FAYETTE (August 28, 2025) – The Evergreen Vikings put on a dominant team performance, as they defeated the Fayette Eagles in straight sets, with contributions coming from all over the roster.
The first set started with both teams going back and forth, with the Vikings taking an early 8-4 lead, but their lead would quickly increase. Evergreen would end up going on a 14-point run, with multiple different players recording points during the run.
The Vikings’ run ended with a serve into the net, but they quickly scored the final three points needed, securing the first set win by a score of 25-6. It seemed like the Vikings were going to run away with the match, but the Eagles dug in and continued to compete.
The second set was much more competitive, as Fayette seemed to find their groove after a rough first set. The second set went point for point to start, with the Vikings and Eagles matching each other ace for ace, and kill for kill.
Neither team had gained an advantage as both teams were tied at 13 apiece midway through, but the Vikings seemed to find their first set momentum, as they went on a seven-point run, making it 20-13 Evergreen.
The Eagles would respond with a few points of their own, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Vikings from a second set win by a score of 25-16, going up 2-0 in the series.
The third set was even more competitive, with Fayette giving up a few smaller runs, instead of a long run of 7+ points, like the previous two sets.
The Vikings would have one run of four & three runs of three, as the Eagles did a better job of slowing the momentum throughout the course of the set. Though the Vikings continued to be too much, as their entire roster contributed to the victory.
Evergreen would win the third set by a score of 25-16, but the Eagles consistently got better as the match went on. The Vikings showed poise in all positions, securing the straight-set victory in a non-league matchup.
