Areas in Delta have been experiencing issues with flooding during heavy rainfall events and snow melt.

According to the Delta Village Administrator Brad Peebles, the water comes from a 54-acre parcel of land that is outside of the village limits.

The water is able to travel at a high enough speed to where it is able to flow over curbs and flood the school parking lot.

Water also goes onto Taylor Street and Eastwood Drive causing the streets and some residents yards to become flooded.

Due to the natural contour of the land in that area, the water is forced to go in this direction as it looks for a way to make it into a ditch to be sent away.

During the previous two council meetings, Administrator Peebles has worked to inform council of plans to combat this issue.

Since the property causing the issue is not inside the village limits, the plan must include cooperation with the county.

In order to achieve this, the county will be petitioned from the village to help remedy the problem. A preliminary design will then be developed along with a cost estimate.

The design will need to involve a large catch basin near Taylor Street, before the village limits, so the areas will not flood.

After these steps are complete, work can begin and the cost can be assessed to the farmland in question.

Work will be continuing, and further updates will be given during upcoming council meetings.
