Viola Lupien (1936 – 2024)

Viola May (Smith) Lupien passed from this earthly plane on Thursday, October 17, 2024.

She was the daughter of Corwin F. Smith and Catherine L. (Bauer) Smith, born in Northwest Township on August 25, 1936.

She was the wife of Philip J. Lupien, Jr., married on January 19, 1957 in Laingsburg, Shiawassee County, Michigan. This was Philip’s home prior to serving in the US Army. Upon their marriage, he would return to Viola’s residence in Williams County, Ohio and they raised their family.

They had three sons, David, of Bryan, Alan, of Leroy, Michigan and Barry, of Bryan and daughter, Karol Parker, of Ashton, Michigan. She has one brother, Donald Smith, of rural Edon, Ohio and her two sisters, predeceased her, Margaret A. Hoover and Dorothy E. Potts.

She also had two grandsons pass prior to her death, Alan Perry Barns and Benjamine Lupien. She had seven grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. They were a joy to her life.

Viola enjoyed her 28 years of service with the Cameron Memorial Hospital (1973) to her retirement in 2001. She worked various roles in the dietary department and had many wonderful friends from this period in her life.

Viola enjoyed collecting dolls, mini kerosene lamps, candles and various other collectibles. She also enjoyed crafting, making holiday figurines with plastic and yarn. Later in life, she was an avid Supermodified Race Car enthusiast, traveling all over Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, New England and the Canadian circuit.

Viola’s funeral services are being held by Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, Ohio. Viewing will be Thursday evening, October 24th from 5pm-8pm. The funeral services will begin at 11am on Friday, October 25th. She will be interred in the Fountain Grove Cemetery, Bryan immediately after the funeral service next to her beloved husband, Philip.

Memorials can be made out to the Williams County Humane Society. She loved her dogs and leaves Sammy, a seventeen year old Chihuahua, who was her companion, watching their favorite shows and participating in many adventures over the last years of her life.
