Wauseon City Council held a meeting on Monday, April 22, 2025, beginning with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence.

New council member Heather Galbraith was then sworn into office by Mayor Kathy Huner. Galbraith filled the vacant seat left by former Council President Harold Stickley who resigned in March.

The oath of office was followed by roll call and approval of prior meeting minutes. There were no committee reports.

Department Head Reports
Department head reports were then presented to council. Director of Finance Jamie Giguere noted several items, including that the health insurance quarterly claim review has had few high claims so far for the year.

She also mentioned that they are looking at a meeting to discuss a new TIF (Tax Increment Financing) program at Arrowhead, as well as working with IT for better security with the phone systems. Finally, they are looking at changing the performance evaluations format.

Next, Law Director Thomas McWatters III shared that they are working with counsel on documentation drafts for the Glenwood assessments and will reach out to specific residents who are on a timeframe and need an update sooner than the next meeting.

Legislation
Resolution 2025-8, which allows the mayor to advertise, accept and enter in a contract with the lowest and best bidder to resurface North Fulton Street, was unanimously placed on a second reading.

New Business
Under new business, a motion was made to appoint the Clerk of Council Korin Miller as the Public Records Certified Designee. Motion carried unanimously.

Mayor Huner noted that Bill Drummer, former Executive Director at the Wauseon Chamber of Commerce, will be recognized for his work for the city next Monday, April 28, at Sullivan’s. Huner encouraged council members to attend the event.

It was also mentioned that the Easter egg hunt over the weekend was a success, despite the morning rain showers. The eggs were gone in just a few minutes, and the attendees helped bring in more customers to the downtown businesses.

Huner also discussed the upcoming Operation Homecoming World War II reenactment event at Homecoming Park.

The event will be held on Saturday and Sunday May 3 and 4, with Friday, May 2, dedicated to attending schools. “It’s going to be exciting,” she said.

With no old business to discuss, council passed a motion to pay the bills and enter into executive session. The meeting ended at 5:15 p.m.
