(April 24th, 2015) – WAUSEON: Hosting non-conference opponent Lima Central Catholic, the Indians Baseball squad was ready for their guests once they arrived. Defending their home field with vigor, it took all of three innings for Wauseon to establish control of the contest.
And they would never relinquish it, topping Lima 11-1.
For the first two innings of the game, things were quiet, with neither team finding a way to put runs on the scoreboard. Then, in the top of the third, Lima drove in the first run of the day. It would be the last one they would score, triggering an offensive barrage from the hometown boys of Wauseon.
It began with 4 runs in the bottom of the third, as the Indian boys quickly took over the lead. They would rack up 3 more runs in the fourth inning, and 4 more in the fifth. This gave Wauseon a 10 run advantage, forcing the mercy rule to take effect and end the contest abruptly.
All three of the runs scored by Wauseon in the fourth inning were brought home by Indian senior Jacob Newlove. With just 1 hit in 3 plate appearances, Newlove knocked in 3 RBIs off of a double. Teammate Carter Bzovi went 2 for 3 on the evening, hitting for a single and a double. He also had 2 RBIs in the game.
Pitching for the Indian boys was senior Collin Stump. Throwing through all five innings of play, he gave up just 1 earned run on 2 hits. He also struck out 3 batters, while walking 6 more in the contest.
