ELMWOOD: May 9 – ” Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might…” ~ Ecclesiastes 9:10
If there is one thing to be said about the John Ramsey Royal Invitational in Elmwood, it is not for the effete poseur. This event is a great barometer to test your postseason readiness, and will only serve to humiliate those who are not prepared to go big. For example, this event has the standard allotment of relay races, but forgoes the 4×400 in favor of the 6400…a 4×1600 meter relay. This is truly a go big or go home invitational, and at the 2014 running of the event, the Wauseon Indians set the bar high for ‘go big’, easily dominating the field on both sides of the ledger to take the boys’ and girls’ championships.
The boys’ squad took first place with a score of 227 points, more points than the combined output of second place Elmwood and third place Van Buren. Of the seventeen events, the Tribe had a first or second place finisher in fourteen. Wauseon had 1-2 finishes in four of the aforementioned events, and ten first place finishes overall. Double winners included Quintin Reiser (800 and 1600), Kris Boysel (long jump and pole vault), and Noah Castle (shot and disc). In the discus, Castle fired a round of 189′ 1″, breaking the Wauseon record of 177′ 1″ set by Todd Christy back in 2011.

The ladies were equally as dominant as their counterparts. Van Buren took second and Elmwood third, but just as before, their combined scores paled in comparison to the 214.5 of the Tribe.
Wauseon placed first in eleven events, with four second place finishes. The Ladies of the Lob, Sally Frank and Brandi Thompson each won a throwing event, and Wauseon won half of the relays, including the monster 4×1600. Senaca Wyse was a quadruple winner (long jump, 100, 200, 400), and Halen Mealer was a double winner (100 and 300 hurdles).
