PIQUA — Wauseon will be well-represented following competition in the Division III regional track and field championships held Thursday and Saturday, May 28 and 30 at Piqua High School.
Leading the contingent for the Indians is Kara Ehrsam, who earned her ticket to Columbus. She finished regional runner-up in the girls shot put with a toss of 42-3¾.
Also advancing was Wauseon’s A’Zarrion Hicks, who qualified with a third-place effort in the long jump with a leap of 20-11½.
Wauseon’s Brayden Burkholder and Emmerie Rodriguez also qualified for the Indians.
Burkholder finished sixth in the boys shot put with a toss of 52-8¾. Rodriguez placed seventh in the girls 300 hurdles with a time of 46.73 seconds.
Two other area individuals, Matea Burkholder of Wauseon and Nicolette Stickney of Bryan, also reached the podium.
Burkholder was eighth in the girls pole vault (10-0). Stickney was eighth in the girls 3200 run with a time of 11:19.93.
Also reaching the podium was Wauseon’s boys’ 400 relay of Hicks, Weston Smith, Collin Mennetti and Dylan Burkholder with a sixth-place finish in 44.07 seconds.
The Division III state meet will get underway on Friday, June 5, at Jesse Owens Track Facility in Columbus.
