Wauseon Trumps Delta

April 20, 2015Updated:December 31, 2020No Comments2 Mins Read

(April 16th, 2015) – DELTA: After fending off a ferocious Lady Panther squad for most of the evening, Wauseon finally made some breathing room in the final inning. That 5 run cushion would prove to be too much for the hometown girls of Delta to overcome.

Wauseon defeated the Panther girls 9-4.

The Lady Indians took an early lead, scoring 2 runs in the top of the first. Holding Delta without a run in the bottom of the inning, Wauseon added on another run in the second. That 3-0 lead wouldn’t last, however, as the Panthers answered with a 2 run effort. Wauseon tacked on another run to earn a 4-2 lead in the fourth, but the Delta girls responded with 2 more runs of their own, tying the contest heading into the fifth inning.

Another run in the top of the fifth reestablished a lead for Wauseon, though at 5-4, the margin of their advantage was quite narrow. It wasn’t until the seventh inning, with a 4 run showing on the part of the Lady Indians, that they put away the Lady Panthers. Delta was unable to rally once again in the bottom of the inning, giving Wauseon the 5 run win.

Ally Tefft, a freshman for the Indian girls, earned the complete game victory from the mound. Allowing just 1 earned run from the mound, she struck out a batter and walked 2 more.

Another Wauseon freshman, Madalyn Martinez had an even more successful night from the plate. Going 2 for 2 inside the batter’s box, she smacked a Delta offering over the fence for a home run, hitting a single as well. She earned an RBI as well. Teammate Oliviah Banister hit a 3 RBI double. Senior Indian Jordan Sloan hit for a single and double, as she went 2 for 3 with her bat. She drove in 2 RBIs in the win.
