Wendell L. Wood (1950-2018)

Wendell L. Wood, age 67 of Wauseon, passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2018, at the St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, surrounded by his loving family.  He was a U.S. Army veteran and prior to his retirement, he and his wife owned and operated Wood Trucking in Wauseon for 35+ years.

Wendell was born on May 11, 1950, in Toledo, to the late George and the late Lucille (Schang) Wood.  On August 24, 1974, he married Cora Miller, and she survives.  Together, they were blessed with two children, Brandon (April Berry) Wood of Fremont, IN and Bree (Ralph) Rolon of Wauseon.  He is also survived by a grandchild, Berkley Coletta Rolon and two step-grandchildren, Keagen Romine and Drake Berry; sisters, Karen Grieser of Pettisville, Georgia (Fritz) Fouty of Wauseon, Rosalynn (James) Grieser of Wauseon, Sally (Jan) Brinkman of Wauseon; and a brother, George (Gina) Wood of Fremont, IN.  Wendell is also survived by many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Roger Grieser.

Wendell loved spending time with his family at their lake cottage and attending his children’s games.  He was a charter member of the Wauseon Exchange Club and was in their Book of Golden Deeds, he was a past Wauseon Citizen of the Year, a member of Crossroads Church, and was on the Cruise Night Committee.  Wendell donated time and money to the Wauseon Imagination Kingdom playground and also a playground at Clear Lake.  He gave of himself freely donating trucks to transport supplies for hurricane victims and helping with and delivering meals at Christmas.

Funeral services for Wendell will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at the True North Church, 850 W. Elm St, Wauseon at 11:00 AM with Pastor Rex Stump officiating.  Interment will follow in Wauseon Union Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home in Wauseon on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM and 6:00 – 8:00 PM and again on Thursday, at True North Church, from 9:00 AM until the time of service.  Those wishing a monetary contribution in Wendell’s memory may do so to either True North Church or Crossroads Church.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.grisierfh.com.  The Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home in Wauseon has been entrusted with arrangements.
