West Unity Honors Those Who Have Served Our Country On Memorial Day

May 26, 2014Updated:November 30, 2016No Comments1 Min Read

A bright and sunny morning met residents of West Unity gathered to recognize Memorial Day 2014. The American Legion Riders led the parade into Memorial Park followed by members of the American Legion Post 669 and members of the Legion Auxiliary. The Hilltop Band followed as the West Unity Boys and Girls Scouts brought up the rear of the parade.

Legion Commander Phil Stotz raised the flag at the cannon and wreathes were laid for the men, women and civilians who have lost their lives for our country. A second ceremony was then held at Rings Cemetery where wreaths were again laid for the fallen.

The final stop for those in attendance was Floral Grove Cemetery. Once again, wreathes were placed and the flag was raised. Village Administrator Rick Beals was the guest speaker and also led prayer. Taps was played by Hilltop Band Director Sam Maran. A 21 gun salute ended the days program.
