West Unity School Board Thanks Community For Support Of Science Fair

Members of the Millcreek-West Unity Local Board of Education convened for their regular meeting on March 21. During the meeting, they heard the principal’s report, the superintendent’s report, and a report from Mrs. Abbie Smith, MWUEA President, which updated the efforts teachers are making for the betterment of both the school and their individual classrooms. The Legislative Liaison report was also heard as well as the first reading of the NEOLA policy changes and revisions.

•Several housekeeping items were approved under the consent agenda. Among the items gaining approval were:

•The minutes from the February 2016 Board of Education Meeting.

•The Financial Statements and Investments for February 2016.

•The establishment of a new fund, State Archery Grant.

•The establishment of a new Student Activity Fund for Archery.

•A Reduction-in-Force for elementary one-on-one student aide position due to decline in enrollment

•Amanda Hausch, Paul Kyser, Debbie Nixon, and Maurice Zuver as substitute teachers for the 2015-16 school year.

•Manda Plum as a substitute secretary.

•An increase of Long Term Substitute Teacher pay rate from $90 per day to $100 per day.

•A word change on the supplemental salary schedule for the Kindergarten Graduation Program Stipend to read Kindergarten Recognition Program.

•An agreement with the Great Lakes Biomedical for provision of onsite services for the T8 physicals and their associated fees.

•The Student Insurance Program with N. Carol Insurance Agency, Ins. This is at no cost to the district.

•Extended leave, from March 25, 2016 to April 18, 206, for medical reasons.

Donations excepted during the meeting included a book entitled First Peas to the Table by Susan Grigsby and 3 Our Ohio Magazines, both from The Farm Bureau.

The Board also approved donations from area businesses and individuals to the 2016 Hilltop Science Fair and noted that the support of the community is greatly appreciated by the JH/HS teachers, Mrs. Abbie Smith and Mrs. Cristin Hagans. Those thanked included the 3 Arts Club, Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Cromwell, Unity Plumbing and Heating, Mr. and Mrs. Curt Cooley, Farmers and Merchants State Bank, PJ&T Transportation, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Wyse (in memory of Blake), Mr. and Mrs. Tim (Vickie) Nofziger, Laura Rolf (in memory of her parents, Harold and Teresa Jones, Kaleb Schaffner, who was gracious enough to donate his Christmas money, the Omnibus Club, Lions Club of West Unity, Dr. Thomas & Shirley Taylor, KAMCO Industries, Inc., Pete’s Posey Patch, Mr. Larry E. Long, Subway (JJM Assoc., Inc.), Millcreek-West Unity Teachers Association, the Hilltop Athletic Boosters, and the West Unity Chamber of Commerce.

The treasurer’s report, with the appropriation modifications needed for the Archery Grant, was also approved.

The next meeting of the Millcreek-West Unity Board of Education will be held on Monday, April 18, 2016 at 6:00 PM in the library.
