William J. Short (1934-2013)

William J. Short, 79 of rural Montpelier passed away Thursday July 4, 2013 in the Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers in Bryan, Ohio. He was born February 26, 1934 at Archbold, Ohio to Flossie (Nofziger) and Alfred J. Short and had been a former Archbold and West Unity area resident and a rural Montpelier resident since 1964.
On February 20, 1954, he married Shirley A. Pignataro in Angola, Indiana and she survives.

A retired farmer, William also was the owner and manager of Short’s Body Shop of West Unity and after retirement, he had served as Greenskeeper at Hillcrest Country Club in Montpelier for four years.

A 1952 graduate of Archbold High School, he was a member of Montpelier Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #312, West Unity Masonic Lodge, Zenobia Shrine Temple #1942 of Toledo and the 32nd Degree Scottish Rite.

In addition to his wife Shirley, William is also survived by two sons: Rick (Alesia) Short of West Unity, Ohio, Tim (Mary) Short of Montpelier; one daughter: Jill Barnd of Bryan, Ohio; four grandchildren: Shane and Adam Short, Melissa and Kristi Barnd and 1 great grandson, Aiden Short, one sister: Donnabell Nofziger of Archbold, Ohio; two brother-in-laws and one sister-in law, Robert Lantz and Gene (Sue) Pignataro. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Richard G. Short, one sister, Charlene Lantz and one brother-in-law, Loyal Nofziger.
Private family Graveside Services will be held in Lockport Cemetery with Mr. Short’s nephew, Reverend Ronald Eade to officiate. There will be no visitation. Preferred memorials are to Cancer Assistance of Williams County. Arrangements are by the Wilson-Geesey Funeral Home and online condolences may be made at wilsongeeseyfuneralhome.com
