Williams County has a new president for the Board of Commissioners.
Lewis Hilkert will take the reins for 2017 after the commissioners held an organizational meeting Jan. 9 in Bryan. Bryan Davis switched spots with Hilkert and will be vice president this year.
The board will continue to meet on Mondays and Thursdays with sessions that can start between 8:30 a.m. and noon and 1-4 p.m. The board will not meet on all federal holidays and April 14, Nov. 24 and Dec. 26.
In their regular meeting, commissioners:
Approved committee assignments
Approved an internet auction for items no deemed worthy for the county to possess.
Authorized the county engineer to enter private property to work one existing ditches and drains or dig new ones; hire laborers by force account in maintenance, repair and construction of roads, bridges and culverts and to furnish labor and equipment for priming and scaling work in 2017.
The engineer was appointed Sanitary Engineer as well through Jan. 7, 2018 at a cost not to exceed $16,069.
Approved the meeting schedule for Hillside Living as 8:30 a.m. on the third Thursday of the month.
Approved compensation for members of the Veterans Service Commission at $3,629.40 per year.
Appointed the following people to the Department of Aging Advisory Committee:
The Rev. Danny Goff, Kelly Hephner, Jim Watkins, Linda Woodall, Peg Bernath, Mary Mohre, Loralee Mercer and Mindy Martin.
