The Williams County Mayor’s Associate met in Edgerton at Studio 34 on Wednesday October 16th. The meeting was called to order at 6:30pm by Mayor Bob Day.

In attendance was Holiday City Mayor Pamela Clark, Edon Mayor Duane Thiel, West Unity Mayor Don Leu, Montpelier Mayor Steve Yagelski, Edgerton Mayor Bob Day, Blakeslee Mayor Eric Jenkins and Stryker Mayor Joe Beck.

Pioneer Mayor Ed Kidston and Bryan Mayor Carrie Schlade were absent. Administrative Assistant Amanda Knecht filled in for fiscal officer Denise Knecht.

The meeting agenda was slightly amended due to the speaker from the Ohio turnpike canceling. Special guest speaker Dave Zbieszkowski filled in at the last minute while having another meeting to attend. Mayor Day said a short prayer before inviting everyone to enjoy some food.

Attending via zoom, Zbieszkowski presented information on the ongoing project at the old Edgerton Metals property.

As project director and principal geologist at August Mack Environmental, Zbieszkowski has had the opportunity to work on various projects over the years.

One recently notable project was in Indianapolis and resulted in the current Bottleworks hotel. He shared background on the current project in Edgerton including details on how the soil and water cleanup was achieved.

He outlined differences in EPA requirements, how to achieve those requirements, different phases of remediation, and available grants to assist.

He provided information on what to look for to be able to utilize similar areas for development in other communities. Zbieszkowski provided his contact information for any member interested.

Day shared his thoughts on the current project and historical ties to the original owner, Charles Moeller. There are plans to invite the current owner back once the project is complete. Day called the way things have fallen into place with this project a blessing.

Following the guest speaker, the meeting minutes from September 18th was motioned to approve by Jenkins and seconded by Thiel. Knecht provided the financial report with Clark motioning to approve and Yagelski seconding.

With no old or new business to address, Yagelski addressed a recent email sharing some upcoming openings in Montpelier.

On October 26th the dedication of Founder’s Park and the opening of the Iron Horse Trail will be held at 4pm. The trail is paved, handicap accessible and can accommodate both pedestrian and bike traffic.

Beck followed by informing the attendees of funding opportunities for economic development focused on transportation improvements.

The meeting was then adjourned at 7:13. The next meeting will be held on November 20th at 6:30 pm.
