The Millcreek-West Ubity Board of Education met Monday October 14th at 6pm. President Heather Jones called the regular board meeting to order with the following members present Dawn Layman, Brian Wieland, David Chester. Randy Mahlman was absent.
Superintendent presented NWOESC Business Advisory Council plan and meeting minutes and spoke to the board about the upcoming safety Levy that will be on November’s ballot.
The board approved the minutes and financial reports from the September meeting. Approval was also made for Health insurance accounts and the 2024-2025 curriculum. The board also approved the advancement on the salary schedule for Elizabeth Elting to the 150 hr index.
The board approved the following employments: Brian Nelson for JV Basketball Coach; volunteer HS basketball coaches – Nate Meuschke,Doug Grimm and Kevin Schaffner; volunteer assistant weight room coordinator Justin Wiyrick; Carson Jennings for 8th grade boys basketball coach; Natalee Schaffner – JV softball coach; Maddie Schaper assistant softball coach; Nate Meuschke – JV baseball coach, Jeremy Hartman – assistant baseball coach; Troy Cummings – Intervention Assistance team and Julie Peebles for substitute teacher.
The board accepted donations of school supplies and Dum Dum sucker’s from Spangler Candy Company. For graduate study reimbursements Elizabeth Elting for 3 semester hours and Allyson Short for 3 semester hours.
The board was asked to approve the softball team’s overnight stay Cincinnati March 20-23.
Discussion during the meeting was the 5th and 6th grade student council elections. The 5th grade students voted in were Marley Hueston, Tanier Sabins, David Drewes, and Evelynn Pike. The 6th grade students voted in were Brett Neely, Cole Gerig,Maddie Pike and Erik Thompson.
For Mr. Drewes PE class Jessica Runkel has come in to teach 4-H Yoga to the Kindergarten through 4th grade students for approximately three weeks. Band has started up for 5th graders.
There was an informational meeting for parents to ask questions and get additional information about instruments.
For Professional Development on October 2nd a few staff members received recertification for CPI training. Nurse Kristen completed all vision and hearing tests for students in K-6th and a mobile dentist will be visiting Hilltop in November.
For field trips the 4th grade visited Fort Meigs as well as Brady Township Fire Department. The 3rd graders visited Sauder Village for their out of classroom learning experience.
For upcoming events October 30th and November 4th will be parent teacher conferences. November 1-12 will be the book fair and Hilltop’s Veterans Day Program will be November 12th.
For high school updates Homecoming, Volley for a Cure and Yellow Ribbon Week were a success.
A cross curricular collaboration of 4 teacher took high school students on a field trip to Farmer Jones in Huron Ohio to expose the students to successful farm to plate operations.
The music boosters raised $3600 at their fundraising event. The funds will be used for choral robe tailoring, instrument repair, music scholarships and many more things.
The choir concert held on October 6th was a wonderful afternoon performance with the theme being using music to build unity.
The Millcreek-West Unity Board of Education meeting adjourned at 6:21 pm with the next meeting set for November 11th at 6pm.
