The Williams County Veterans Memorial Building was filled with veterans, their families, and community members on Saturday, September 6, 2025, for the annual Veterans Bean and Cornbread Dinner.

Organized in part by the Williams County Veteran Services and Gloria Poorman, the gathering was served as both a meal and a moment of recognition for those who have worn the uniform.

The program opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer, led by Poorman, before a brief message from the Williams County Veterans Service Office.

Poorman then took the time to recognize each era of service, calling forward veterans of various different wars and operations.

Present were service members of the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Persian Gulf War, the Persian Gulf War, the Afghanistan War, the Iraq War, and Panama Conflict. Each veteran present was thanked personally for their service and sacrifice.

Nearly 50 veterans were in attendance, accompanied by their families, filling the hall with camaraderie and reflection. The attendees took the time to share stories and honor the service of generations past and present.

The meal itself carried symbolism, featuring a traditional spread of beans and cornbread along with homemade cakes and cookies.

The food paid homage to the simple yet sustaining meals shared in times of scarcity, echoing the resilience of those who served. Local youth volunteers assisted the event, many inspired by family military ties.
