Ronald L. Kunkel, 67, Montpelier, died early Friday morning at Evergreen Manor Nursing Home in Montpelier. He was born July 8, 1945 in Angola, Indiana to Lester J. and Donna M. (Bonecutter) Kunkel. Ron was a Williams County resident for all of his life and graduated from North Central High School in 1964.
Ron was a machinist at Ingersoll-Rand (Aro) in Bryan for 32 years until his retirement in 2004. Ron was a former reserve officer for the Village of Pioneer as well as being on the Fire Department and the E.M.S.
Ron was a life member of the North American Hunter’s Association.
Ron is survived by two daughters Julie Southworth of Edon, Dawn M. Kunkel of Montpelier, two sons Ronald L. “Bub” Kunkel of Edon, Joel (Jessica) Kunkel of Pioneer, three grandchildren Dustin Kunkel, Harley Kunkel, Caleb Olmstead, a brother Dale (Becky) Kunkel of Montpelier and former wife and good friend Ann E. Kunkel of Montpelier.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Beverly Proxmier.
Visitation for Ron was on Tuesday, September 4th at the Thompson Funeral Home in Pioneer. Services were on Wednesday at 11 am at the funeral home with Pastor Paul Gruetter officiating. Interment followed at Floral Grove Cemetery in Pioneer. Donations may be made in memory of Ron to the Montpelier Senior Center. Condolences may be made online to thethompsonfuneralhome.com
