Baseball/Softball Roundup For May 13th, 2021

VARSITY SOFTBALL

Division IV Sectional Finals

Hilltop 22 Holgate 0 (5 innings)


Lana Baker scattered three hits and tallied 11 strikeouts in five innings in the circle as Hilltop (24-3) won a Division IV sectional title. Hilltop collected 17 hits on the night as Holly Jermeay was 3-4 with three RBIs and Americus Maddox had a home run and drove in two runs.

North Central 8 Hicksville 2

The Eagles posted five runs in the third inning to take a 6-2 lead on their way to a Division IV sectional crown. Makinzy King led North Central (10-12) with two hits, Emma Fidler added two hits, two RBIs, and Isabelle Burnett also drive in two runs.

Edgerton 11 Miller City 3


Ella Miler gave Edgerton the lead with a two-run homer in the second inning and the Bulldogs added nine more runs in the third to pull away for an 11-3 victory. Grace Schroeder added to the Bulldogs out by going 2-4 with three RBIs and Lola Giesige knocked in two runs.

Regular Season

Fairview 7 Wauseon 5

The Apaches (21-1), trailing 4-3, plated two runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to grab a 7-5 win over Wauseon in a tournament tune-up game for both squads. Macee Schang had a double, home run and two RBIs for Wauseon (15-8) in the loss.


Bryan 19 Continental 3 (6 innings)

Holding a 4-2 lead after five innings, Bryan (21-3) exploded for 15 runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach. Breanna Long led the Bryan attack with a 3-4 (two singles, one triple) game and three RBIs while Olivia Moore was 2-2 and drove in four runs.

Edon 26 Fayette 0 (5 innings)

Paige Briner hit for the cycle as she went 5-6 with seven RBIs and scored four times to lead Edon (5-13, 5-6 in BBC) to a 26-0 victory over Fayette (0-14, 0-9). Jaycea Craven, Mallory Wofford, and Carlie Kiess added to Edon’s 25-hit night with three hits each.

Montpelier 21 Pettisville 5

Jessi Bumb collected three hits and drove in five runs as Montpelier got a 21-5 win in BBC softball. Kaycee Humbarger had two hits and four RBIs for the Locos and Cadey Hillard scored four runs to set a record for runs scored in a season (31). Allie King led Pettisville with two hits and Kenzie Rivera added two RBIs.

JV SCORES:

Bryan d. Delta 8-4

VARSITY BASEBALL

Wauseon 10 Springfield 0 (6 innings)

Connar Penrod and Brady Thomas combined on the mound for 12 strikeouts and allowed just four hits as Wauseon won on Senior Night. Cooper Lane led Wauseon (16-5) on offense with a double and three RBIs while Eli Delgado and Jaxon Radabaugh each drove in two runs.

Evergreen 5 Toledo Start 2

The Vikings broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the sixth inning as they defeated Start 5-2. Landen Vance went the distance for Evergreen (14-8) on the hill giving up two runs on seven hits and striking out nine.

Bryan 21 Elida 0 (5 innings)

The Golden Bears scored 12 runs in the first inning as they rolled to a 21-0 over Elida on Senior Night. Keith Huard led the 17-hit attack by Bryan with three doubles as part of a 4-5 game with eight RBIs, Quinn Brown had three hits and three RBIs, while Clayton Rupp and Mikey Wolff also had three hits each.

Tinora 15 Swanton 4

The Rams took advantage of seven errors by Swanton for a six-run fourth inning and eight runs in the seventh to blow open a close game. Kaden Curtis tallied two hits for Swanton and Devon Crouse had two RBIs.

Edon 6 Fayette 5

Cole Vasquez smacked an RBI double in the seventh to lift the Bombers (6-17, 6-5 in BBC) to a 6-5 win at Fayette. Ethan Steinke (double, single) and Garrett Skiles (triple, single) had two hits each for Edon. Fayette (3-12, 1-9), who tied the game 5-5 with three runs in the fifth, were paced by Tanner Wagner with two doubles and two RBIs and Jayden Fairfield was 2-2 with two RBIs.

Hilltop 9 Stryker 1

Ian Hoffman fired a complete game two-hitter and recorded 10 strikeouts to lead the Cadets to a 9-1 win over Stryker. Connor Schlosser, Chase Whitman, Isaac Baumgartner, and Lucas Jacobs had two hits apiece for Hilltop (6-16, 6-6 in BBC) with Schlosser and Whitman also adding two RBIs. Jacob Cadwell and Gavin LaBo each singled to account for the Panther (0-13, 0-11) hits.

Montpelier 2 Pettisville 0

The Locos finished the season 12-0 in the BBC as Blake Altaffer dominated on the mound allowing six hits and totaling 12 strikeouts in a 2-0 win. Altaffer and Gavin Stratton each had an RBI for Montpelier. Blake Eyer topped Pettisville (12-7, 7-5 in BBC) with a pair of singles.
