The Wauseon High School Honor Society held a food drive on Friday, March 25th. Residents around Wauseon who had previously filled out a form were able to leave food items outside their door for NHS students to pick up.

Food items being asked for included things like cereal, pudding cups, granola bars, canned fruits and vegetables, pasta noodles and sauce, peanut butter and more.

Students were bussed to households throughout the community with some businesses and churches also donating food this year.

The food pantry, which is operated in-house over at the Elementary School, was able to raise around a month’s worth of food.

With around 20 to 30 meals per day being served to members of the community, the amount of donations made to the pantry was substantial.

This is the second year for the food drive which was created as a way to help the community and to also give their NHS members another way to gain community service hours.

“The 4 pillars of membership in the National Honor Society are Scholarship, Leadership, Character, and Service, and this is a way for our organization to serve some of the families in our school district,” said NHS Advisor Laura Vorwerk.

The plan currently is for the food drive to continue in the future and to hopefully grow. Donations are also always welcome for the food pantry at the Wauseon Elementary School.

If anyone wishes to donate food at any time, they can contact April Beck abeck@wauseonindians.org or Tara Delgado tdelgado@wauseonindians.org
