The Bryan Board of Public Affairs (BPA) meeting from May 17 began with the Pledge of Allegiance. All five board members, Annette Schreiner, Karen Ford, Jim Salsbury, Tom Sprow and Dick Long, were in attendance.
First, the BPA approved the previous May 3 minutes meeting. One guest voiced his thoughts that fiber to houses for the internet would be a good idea.
Next, the BPA approved the clerk-treasurer financial report.
The BPA then approved Resolution 24-2022, removing all references to cable TV. After June 1, cable TV will no longer be offered by the city of Bryan. The internet will still be offered.
That was followed by the BPA approving Resolution 25-2022. This one involved receiving a donation in excess of $200,000 from Airmate, for the remaining amount of the project.
Next, the BPA approved Resolution 25-2022. Here, the water capital funds for the Airmate project will be appropriated to the 525 Water Capital fund..
The BPA then set a date for a special meeting, for May 23, at 5 p.m., in order to be able to set a date for the start of the Airmate project.
The construction needs to start by June 1, so the special meeting would expedite the project. The special meeting date and time was approved.
Next, the Bryan Municipal Utilities asked for approval to promote Chad Fitzenrider to probationary water plant supervisor. The BPA approved the promotion.
The BPA then approved the hiring of Derick Wyrick as an electric department employee. Next, the BPA passed the motion to pay the bills.
In BPA comments, utilities director Nate Gardner extended congrats to Chad and Derick. Gardner reminded everyone that cable will be discontinued as of June 1, but the internet will be maintained.
In addition, Gardner asked that the visitor who talked about fiber for internet leave a contact number, because Gardner would like to talk to him more about the subject.
The BPA then moved into executive session.
