On Monday, July 18th, students that are going to be entering into the Pike-Delta-York school district participated in the annual safety village program. The program started that Monday and ended on Friday, July 22nd.
Students were taught safety when crossing the street, how to be safe around swimming pools, and the proper rules to follow when riding on school buses.
The Delta Police Department and fire department also came on different days to help educate the children.
Some of the topics touched on include fire safety and stranger danger. The children also got to meet some of the police officers and fire fighters in addition to being able to see their vehicles.
Students also got a tour of the school in order to be better ready when school starts.
The event is sponsored by the Delta Chamber of Commerce and The First Federal of Delta Bank and is held at the Delta school building. It has been going on for a very long time and is an important class for those who are about to enter school.
“Safety is extremely important for all children, and we know this is an ongoing topic within our schools’ buildings. “
“The opportunity to work with and instill safety and awareness with our incoming kindergarten students is a great way to kick off their educational career at PDY,” said Delta Superintendent Haselman.
