Students at the Evergreen Elementary and High School wore the color yellow in their support of National Suicide Prevention Week. The National Week of Awareness takes place from September 4th to the 10th every year.

The colors yellow and orange signify suicide prevention and awareness and are recognized across the world. According to yellowribbon.com, the color yellow was used after the death of Mike Emme who was seventeen years old at the time.

Mike had a 1968 yellow Ford Mustang which led to people using yellow paper to spread messages to others who needed help. It also led to people making ribbons with the color yellow and it started to spread from there.

According to the CDC, suicide was the twelfth leading cause of death in 2020 with over 45,900 lives being taken. Students wore the color yellow in order to raise awareness for this issue and to show their support for those who need it.

If anyone is in need of help, there are numerous resources available. One way to receive help is by calling 988 or by dialing 1-800-273-8255 to be connected to the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
