The Montpelier School Board meeting on October 11 began with roll call, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
All five board members, Jeremy Clinger, Dunne Gambler, Nate Rose, Patti Rockey and Shawn Owen were in attendance.
In the first order of business, the students of the month were announced: Elijah Geren, kindergarten; Brantley Tomaszewski, first grade; Rhett Hutchison, second grade; Cole Ortega, third grade; Quinn Shoup, fourth grade; Jayce Feeney, fifth grade; Dylan Mattern, fifth grade; Cloey Harrington, sixth grade; Caddisy Chamberlain, seventh grade; Payten Hall, eighth grade and Logan Pontious, high school.
In the elementary principal’s report, Lance Thorp said that attendance has been good.
There will be parent-teachers conference on October 20 and there will be no school on October 21.
The elemetary quiz bowl will take place in Bryan on October 25. There will be a Halloween Party and Parade on October 31 and Grandparents Day will take place on November 8. including a musical performance.
In the high school principal’s report, Su Thorp said that a strong 170 junior high students from various schools attended the ECHO conference. Montpelier Junior High has nine students on its Awareness Team.
There was a parent-teacher conference on Thursday and there will be a Veterans Day celebration on November 10.
In the treasurer’s report, Carla Rice said that she is waiting for the new numbers to be released at the end of October.
She said that she is going to work with the finance committee and that will be discussed at the next meeting.
Next, the board approved of the meeting minutes from the September 13 meeting.
In the financial reports, the board approved of the following: financial report for September; and donations from the class of 1949, $89.33 to the athletic fund and $4,550 from the athletic boosters, for cheerleading, cross country, football, volleyball, girls golf, boys golf; athletic boosters totalling $2,500 to HUDL subscription; St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, $500 to the Nurses Fund and CHWC, first installment of $6,666.66 to the Athletic Trainer Fund.
Next, the board approved of the following employment of certified staff: to rescind Kailee Mitchell’s teacher contract and approve to hire her as a district substitute teacher; approve the certified supplemental contracts and to approve the resolution terminating the employment of Kaylee Fortney.
The board then approved Jodi Grime as JV girls basketball coach.
That was followed by the board approving of the following employment of classified staff: adding Sarah Luke to the substitute secretary and the substitute cafeteria list; to add Clorinda Muehlfeld to the substitute aide and substitute cafeteria list and to approve the classified supplemental contracts.
Next the board approved the new and revised policies and guidelines.
That was followed by council approving the purchases and service contracts of the following: to approve the agreement with the Northwest Ohio Educational Service Center for Educational Services at the Liberty Education Center; to approve the agreement with Shalom Counseling and Mediation Center for School-Based Behavioral Health and Mental Health Prevention and Support Services and to approve the AIA owner/architect with Beilharz Architechs for the Recreation Center project.
Next the board approved of the following other business items: the resolution honoring American Education Week for November 14-18; to approve the 2022-23 school calendar; the employment of substitute teachers, who do not hold a post secondary degree and that such individuals be at least four years removed from attaining a high school diploma, extending through June 30, 2024; to approve the MHS Band and Choir trip to Nashville, Tennessee from March 10, 2023 to March 12, 2023 and to approve the Montpelier Public Library 2023 Proposed Budget.
The board then moved into executive session.
