Though the halls of Pettisville School are mostly empty during the summer months, the Pettisville Board of Education met on both Monday, July 3, 2023, and Monday, July 10, 2023, to take care of business.

The July 3 special meeting, which focused primarily on personnel matters, was held at 7:00 am in the school with all board members present.

At that time, the Board accepted the resignations of staff members Rebecca Sivik, Myra Frazer, and Danielle Vocke.

The Board then approved the hiring of Matt Meyer as junior high/high school social studies teacher for the 2023-2024 school year and Dee Darby Dixon, as junior high/high school English/Language Arts teacher for the 2023-2024 school year.

After addressing personnel matters, the Board entered into an executive session for the purpose of the appointment, employment, dismissal, discipline, promotion, demotion, or compensation of an employee or official from 7:03 am to 7:24 am.

With no further action taken, the July 3 meeting was adjourned.

On Monday, July 10, 2023, at 8:00 PM, the Board met again for its regular session with all members in attendance.

As the first order of business, the Board approved the June 2023 meeting minutes, accepted the financial reports as presented by the treasurer, and approved the payment of bills as submitted for approval.

In personnel matters, Kayla Heising-JV Volleyball; Jenae Lammers-Volleyball Volunteer; and Deana Beck-JH Cheer were approved as coaches.

The Board then approved the fiscal year 2023 advances necessary to close out the fiscal year as follows:  from the General Fund to the Athletic Fund: $9,246.60; from the General Fund to the ESSER Fund: $74,093.92; from the General Fund to the Title I Fund: $103.50; and from the General Fund to the Title IV Fund: $9,576.52.

Treasurer Chris Lee presented to the Board a report outlining cash flow for the district as of the 2023 fiscal year closeout.

The report highlighted revenue of $6,881,352, and expenses of $6,591,312 resulting in a positive balance of $290,040.

“It was actually a very good year for the district – for the General Fund, cashflow-wise,” added Lee.

Lee provided a bright outlook on the district’s future revenue since the Governor signed House Bill 33 (State Budget Bill.)

“Pettisville Schools will receive in fiscal year ‘24 $4,634,722 which is an increase of $517,801 over current – or this past fiscal year ‘23.  In the fiscal year of ‘25, we will receive another $317,213 additional.”

“So, the biennium budget provides an additional $835,014 to our district. So, this is very good news.  The Fair School Funding treats Pettisville well.”

In the superintendent’s report, Josh Clark shared that much work is being done behind the scenes with hiring and orienting new staff members. Professional development plans for all teaching staff are also underway.

In building matters, Clark also noted that the custodial and maintenance staff have been busy getting the building ready for the next school year.

Furthermore, the new School Resource Officer, Steve Schlosser, will soon be working on the school’s safety plan.

“There’s a lot going on.  A lot of hustle and bustle behind the scenes,” Clark said in closing.

With nothing further, the meeting was adjourned.  The next Pettisville School Board meeting will be held on Monday, August 14, at 8:00 pm.
