GABLE Mayor Borer swears in new council member Greg Gable

The Fayette Village Council held their meeting on Wednesday, August 23rd. The meeting began late due to there not being enough members of council present.
A fourth member of council entered the village hall, and the meeting began at 6:29 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was observed first along with a prayer. The current agenda was then approved along with the addition of legislative item C.
Council then moved to enter into executive session at 6:30 p.m. and returned at 6:46 p.m. During executive session, members of council decided to appoint Greg Gable and Brenda Shoemaker to council.
These seats were open following the resignations of members Rodney Kessler and David Wheeler.
The minutes from a meeting held on August 9th were then approved, along with the Public Works/Finance Committee meeting minutes from August 16th.
Brittany Theis then shared a few updates to council, including news that new calendars are for sale for the Lyons Club.
The calendars are $10.00 and will be able to have special dates added to them such as birthdays. Other items were discussed as well, including a possible Christmas Market, wreath-making class, and Christmas Caroling. The mayor’s report then followed, with the following items being discussed.
A public meeting will be held on September 12th at 6:00 p.m. in the High School Cafeteria. The meeting will be held to discuss the Phase 1 water system replacement project.
April 8th, 2024, will be the complete eclipse of the sun, set your plans now for the event. The Fayette Fall Fest will be coming up in September, surveys are available for the comprehensive plan, and an income survey will be sent out in September to help the village with grant funding.
The VFO’s report followed next with it being stated a new bill list had been printed. A FORMA meeting was held prior to the council meeting with next year’s insurance rates being discussed.
This year will see a 12.7% increase for the consortium as a whole, with the Village of Fayette seeing an increase of 9.99% for medical. Vision, Dental, and Life Insurance will not see an increase next year.
Bills in the amount of $54,354.80 were approved next along with the Second Reading of Ordinance 2023-09.
The ordinance is for the enactment of Codified Ordinance Chapter 1301 regarding exterior property maintenance code and declaring an emergency.
The following legislative actions were then approved. The certification of tax assessments to the County Auditor, an application for the Fayette Fall Fest, and the setting of Trick-Or-Treat for 6:00-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31st, 2023.
Council then entered back into executive session at 7:18 p.m. and returned at 7:53 p.m.
Council lastly moved to increase the pay for village employees before then moving to adjourn the meeting at 7:55 p.m.
