PASSING THE GAVEL … 2023 Chairperson Dick Long was more than excited to pass the gavel to 2024 Chairperson Karen Ford at the last Bryan BPA meeting of 2023.

The Bryan Board of Public Affairs met for the last time in 2023 on December 29 at noon. Present for the meeting were members Tom Sprow, Karen Ford, Annette Schreiner, Jim Salsbury, and Dick Long. Also, present were City Clerk – Treasurer John Lehner and Director of Utilities Derek Schultz.
The minutes of their last meeting were approved as amended with no discussion before the details of the new GRIP Program, which could procure funding for a substation upgrade. Director Schultz was given permission to pursue this funding by working with AMP.
Employee Patrick Wilde was then congratulated on his promotion, with the board thanking him for his hard work.
The Bryan BPA then moved to cancel their January 2, 2024 meeting due to a lack of necessity before member Tom Sprow made one of his last motions: one to nominate Karen Ford as Chairperson of the Bryan BPA for 2024. His nomination was approved, as was his motion to nominate Annette Schreiner to the position of Vice-Chair for 2024.
Discussion was then held on a clear path of succession, with the board voting to make it to where the previous year’s Vice-Chair proceeds to Chairperson, with the board then delegating a new Vice-Chair only.
Everyone then thanked Sprow for his eight years of service to the board, and wished everyone a wonderful New Years.
Conversation was then held on issues that may arise from the new plan of succession, and Clerk – Treasurer Lehner promised to make note of the comments in the meeting minutes.
The last motion made by the Bryan BPA was to adjourn the meeting at 12:22 p.m., which they did shortly after approving the bills as presented.
