The Wauseon City Council held their meeting on Monday, January 15th. The meeting began at 5:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a moment of silence.

Council first moved to approve minutes for the previous meeting before moving on to hear committee reports.

Councilor Jeremy Simon gave a report regarding the previous Tree Commission meeting that was held on January 9th, 2024.

Simon explained that Tree Commission members are currently working to rewrite the Tree Ordinance for the City of Wauseon.

Law Director Tom McWatters stated that he will be putting the updated ordinance into legislative form, which will be presented to the Safety and Code Committee.

Department reports came next, with Fire Chief Phil Kessler informing council about the Fulton County Fire Chiefs Association Dinner. Invitations should have already been sent out and received.

Kessler also stated that Jed Bowers is receiving the VFW EMT of the year. He was nominated by his peers and was recognized in Columbus, Ohio.

Mayor Kathy Huner then stated that the CPR renewal that took place at the Wauseon Primary School went well.

Chief Kessler then informed council that, if they are interested in investing in the Owl Lab camera system, to let him know.

Councilor Brandon Tijerina then asked if a vote was needed for the purchase of the Owl Lab camera system.

Chief Kessler stated no, and that council would just need to decide how much they would want to invest. Councilor Sarah Heising stated she would be interested in giving $500, with the rest of council agreeing.

Mayor Huner then reminded everyone present about the Taste of Wauseon Gala that is taking place on February 24th. Council then moved to approve and pay the bills before moving to adjourn at 5:18 p.m.
