STATE OF THE VILLAGE ADDRESS … Edgerton Mayor Robert Day gave the State of the Village Address at the January 17, 2024 council meeting.
2023 was a year of progress and promise on all fronts in the Village of Edgerton. Forward movement was visible in many areas through completed projects and the behind-the-scenes due diligence is in process preparing for even bigger things to come.
Both water towers were completely renovated, inside and out, giving us an additional 40 years of life to the towers.
1969 EHS Grad and artist, Carl Yarger, designed murals for the outside of both towers and the two together gives Edgerton one of the finest pair of towers in the area.
With our ARPA funds, along with other funding sources and an additional $300,000 obtained through the county commissioners, the local participation of the estimated $1.1 million dollar project was reduced to $154,800.00.
Three new businesses opened with ribbon cuttings this year, DKL Auto Repair, Rae’s Beauty Bar and Outlaw Armory & Ammo, have been added to the unique collection of retail businesses in Edgerton.
Seven new residential dwellings were built in 2023, along with Park View Care Center added an on-site Dialysis Center for its residents.
Town Park had the Picnic Pavilion’s roof replaced with the help of donated materials and labor to complete the much-needed project.
An over $10,000 NatureWorks grant provided funds to add seven benches and six tables at Burkhart Fields on Gerhart & Ash Street.
This coming year, another NatureWorks grant of $5,381.00 will allow us to provide an 18-hole Disc Golf Course in Miller Park for our residents.
The town hall has been updated in several areas with fresh paint, flooring, and a sound system upgrade in the gym. Earlier this month, we hosted our first throwback high school basketball game in this gym in 20 years.
Food Truck Mondays, including music and activities, have been a huge hit with residents and filling a need on Mondays.
The over $14 million dollars of funding that has been awarded to the village from several sources in the last year has started to manifest itself in the village.
The Metals Property, with its five-million-dollar Brownfield Grant from the Ohio Department of Development began their work in mid-October with an estimated completion in mid-2025.
Preparations for the anticipated village wide of $9 million dollars of major infrastructure improvements are under way, with surveying and behind the scenes collaboration with several entities.
It will lead the way for updates including almost 5 miles of new sidewalks, five miles of road paving and street crossing safety improvements over the next two years and beyond.
Progress is messy and will be intrusive at times, but if we stay the course and remain focused on what is to be gained, improved safety for our students, pedestrians, and vehicle traffic, it will be worth it all.
Keep your eyes on the prize…a steadily improving Edgerton that has and will continue to have a forward lean to the future.
With God’s leading, manifested through those around these tables and carried out by our team of village employees… where His Finger points, His Hand will make a way. We will continue to strive to ‘do things in Edgerton that will live long beyond us’…the best is yet to come!
