CATS ARE EVERYWHERE … Council discusses the stray cat issue in the village and what they could possibly do to handle the situation.

The Village of Stryker held their meeting on Monday, February 19th. The meeting began at 6:00 p.m. with a prayer followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
In the first order of business, council moved to approve minutes from the previous meeting as well as the financial report. Mayor Beck then let everyone know that 2024 committees had been set and finalized.
Next, council announced Big Trash Clean Up Day to be May 4th. Residents are able to start putting trash out the week of May 4th, however the village prefers residents to wait until later in the week, if possible.
Council then approved to suspend and pass Ordinance #2024-02: Revised Permanent Annual Appropriation Ordinance. Then, Police Chief Mendez gave his report stating that the department is still working on the new software program but that the program should be complete by next month.
Starting April 1st, the compost dumpster will be available. Keep in mind that there is to be no sticks or trash put into the compost.
Lastly, council discussed an ongoing issue with stray cats in the village. The village needs some kind of solution to solve the issue and would like that solution to be as humane as possible. These cats are getting into houses, cars, and other buildings where they should not be.
The village would like to get ahead of the situation before the situation becomes uncontrollable and wants to make the residents aware that if you start feeding a stray animal then that said animal becomes the resident’s responsibility.
With nothing else left to discuss, council moved to adjourn at 6:28 p.m. The next regular meeting will be March 18th at 6:00 p.m.
