GIRLS WRESTLING PRE-REGIONALS: Archbold Hosts Area Wrestlers For Pre-Regionals

ARCHBOLD (February 24, 2024) – Area girl wrestlers took to the mat at Archbold High School for a OHSAA Pre-Regional tournament as the top four placers in each weight class move on to this week’s regional tournament in Marysville.

At 105, three NWOAL wrestlers are moving on led by Shelby Moore of Evergreen who was runner-up, Lydia Epling of Archbold place third after defeating Wauseon’s Jordyn Przeporia by fall in the third-place match.

At 110, Wauseon freshman Kaelyn Hartsock punched her ticket to the Marysville Regional by taking second after dropping a 7-3 decision in the championship match and Ava Herman of Edgerton was victorious over Courtney Bennett (Fairview) by fall to grabbed third.

Edgerton picked up their second district qualifier at 115lbs as sophomore Kyli Hazelton was runner-up after being pinned in the championship match.

Also advancing at 115 were Jerica Sprague of Archbold and Carlie Mitchell of Delta with Sprague defeating Mitchell by fall to take third place.

At 120, Montpelier’s Jacee Altaffer pinned her way to a championship while at 125, MacKenzie Brennan of Archbold took third after defeating Melanie Buschor (Celina) with a pin in just 10 seconds.

The next two weight classes generated regional qualifiers for Archbold with Lila Nichols taking fourth at 130 pounds and Julia Azua was the champion in the 135-pound weight class.

Also at 135, Delta’s Olivia Tipton was fourth to advance to Marysville before Marlee Yoder (Bryan) defeated Wauseon freshman Amya Hallett by fall to take the title at 140.

Harlee Salazar of Montpelier took home the gold at 145lbs as she beat Ryllie Taylor of Delta with a pin at 3:59.

The final area champion of the night came at 235 where Archbold’s Gabby Oregon took the top spot and Rachael Saeger of Evergreen was third.

115LB DIVISION … Kyli Hazelton (left) of Edgerton earned the win over Delta’s Carlie Mitchell with a late fall.
