(July 8th, 2015) – WEST UNITY: It was a game of revenge for the Cadets, as they once again faced off against the Bombers of Edon in ACME postseason play.  While Edon claimed victory in the opening round of Sectionals, this time it would be Hilltop who would emerge at the victor.

The Cadets topped the Bombers 7-4.

From the start, the contest was a low scoring affair.  The first 2 innings went scoreless, as both sides struggled to gain the upper hand in a defensive struggle.  Then, in the top of the third, Edon drew first blood with a 2 run showing.  Hilltop was unable to formulate an immediate rebuttal.

They would, however, score their first run of the game in the bottom half of the fourth, cutting the Bomber advantage in half.  The Cadets would build off of that momentum, racking up an impressive 5 runs in the fifth to establish a commanding lead.  Edon attempted to cut into their deficit with a 2 run display in the sixth, but the boys of West Unity responded with another run of their own to minimize the comeback effort.

Holding the Bomber boys scoreless in the top of the seventh, Hilltop didn’t need to take to the field in the bottom of the inning.

Quinn Smith gave the Cadets a live bat throughout the evening.  Going 3 for 4 from the plate, the junior-to-be drove in 2 RBIs among his 3 singles.  Incoming senior Levi Grant also had a solid day in the batter’s box, hitting for a pair of singles as he earned 2 RBIs as well.

For Edon, Jared Best made the most of his only plate appearance on the game.  He connected with the ball for a single, driving home an RBI.  Also producing an RBI was Braden Miller, who also scored a run on the base paths.

Nic Schieber assumed the win for Hilltop, remaining on the mound for 2.2 innings.  He gave up 2 earned runs from just 1 hit.  Also pitching in the match-up were starter Kohl Collins, Isaac VanArsdalen, and Smith.

Levi Brandt was handed the loss for the Bombers, pitching for 5 innings.  He struck out 5 Hilltop batters, walking 5 more.  Best stepped in for the conclusion of the game.
