Montpelier Man Receives 25 Years To Life Sentence For Child Sexual Abuse

In a recent ruling at Williams County Common Pleas Court, Ray Ramos, a 53-year-old resident of Montpelier, was handed a 25 years to life prison sentence for a child sexual abuse crime.

The sentence, delivered by Judge J.T. Stelzer, includes the possibility of parole after 25 years.

Ramos was convicted of rape, a first-degree felony, with the added specification of being identified as a “sexually violent predator.”

As part of the judgment, Ramos was credited for 110 days served in the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio while awaiting trial, fined $2,500, and designated as a tier 3 sexual offender, mandating lifelong registration of his address with authorities upon release from prison.

Ramos had previously entered a guilty plea on June 11, resulting in the dismissal of six counts of rape, each a first-degree felony, as part of a plea agreement between his attorney, John Shaffer of Bryan, and Williams County Prosecutor Katie Zartman’s office.

The charges stem from allegations that on March 15, Ramos engaged in sexual conduct with an 11-year-old girl on multiple occasions.

A Williams County grand jury, which returned charges in April, alleged that he “compelled the victim to submit by force or the threat of force.”
