The Bryan City Council met on Monday, October 21st, 2024 at 5:30 pm with all members present Mary Leatherman from Ward 1, Richard Hupe from Ward 2, John Betts from Ward 3, Stephen Alspaugh from Ward 4, Jim Kozumplik At Large. Mayor Carrie Schlade, Clerk/Treasurer John Lehner, Police Chief Greg Ruskey, Fire Chief Douglas Pool, Ben Dominique from Parks and Recreation, and a few members from the community.

The meeting was called to order by Leatherman promptly at 5:30 pm followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The Council approved the minutes from the October 7th meeting.

Next on the agenda was a hearing of public concerns. Resident Steve Cox approached the council to thank them for street repairs on Huntington Drive again but brought up concerns about the work.

He said that the street department chip and sealed and then placed tar over that work and that is already breaking apart. He also mentioned that large equipment has been sitting in the East End neighborhood with no one using it.

Lehner presented the Clerk-Treasurer report and asked the board to accept and authorize some donations Ordinance No. 382024 – $10,000 to the police department for updated bulletproof vests and $4,000 to the Parks and Recreation Department to help with the Urban Forest and Tree City USA projects.

Ben Dominique thanked the BMU for their donations. Motion suspended by Kozumplik and seconded by Richard Hupe. Motion approved by Betts and seconded by Alspaugh.

Fire Chief Douglas Pool presented to the board Resolution No. 6, a $2,300 donation from the Bryan Fraternal Order of the Eagles to replace old equipment some of which he mentioned was over twenty years old. Suspended by Alspaugh and seconded Kozumplik. Motion approved by Betts and seconded by Hupe.

Mayor Carrie Schlade asked Dominique to approach the bench and inform everyone of the Halloween festivities.

On Saturday, October 26th the Parks and Recreation Department is having a Halloween Party at the ice Rink from 2-4 and then townwide Trick or Treating will be held from 5-7.

The Bryan City Council meeting adjourned at 5:40 pm. The next meeting will be held on November 4th at 5:30 pm.
