Norman E. RiggsNorman E. Riggs, 90 years of West Unity, passed away Sunday, September 6, 2015 in the home of his son, Steven, in Woodstock, Georgia. Norman was born May 8, 1925 in Leipsic, Ohio, the son of the late Ira and Clara (Yetter) Rigg. A High School graduate, Norman enlisted in the United States Navy where he served in World War II. He married Helen E. Rice on May 8, 1954, and she preceded him in death on September 10, 2003. Norman was a truck driver who transported Mobile Homes for many years. He was a life member of the West Unity American Legion Post #669 where he served in the Honor Guard and the Minutemen. He was also a life member of the Moose. He was very active for the past twelve years at the West Unity Senior Center since the death of his wife, Helen. Norman thoroughly enjoyed working in his yard, caring for his lawn and posies. He always looked forward to the weekend breakfast gatherings with his friends at local restaurants. Over the past 25 years Norman continued his love of history by traveling to twelve European Countries. In May of 2015 he took an Alaskan cruise with his children to complete his quest of visiting all 50 U.S. states.

Surviving are his three children, Susan (Mark) Hamann of Lake Lure, North Carolina, twins, Steven (Sandra) Riggs of Woodstock, Georgia, and, Shari (Jeff) Leininger of Archbold, Ohio; twelve grandchildren, Megan Lyons, Erica Hamann, Rachel Hamann, Samantha Hamann, Gina (Brady) Lohner, Lauren Riggs, Calandra Riggs, Tyler Riggs, Dakota Riggs and Steven Riggs, Jessica Leininger and Garrett Leininger; one great-granddaughter, Juliet Lohner. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, one son-in-law, Bill Lyons; one brother, George Riggs and one sister, Evelyn Roth.

Visitation for Norman E. Riggs will be held Friday, September 11, 2015 from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 202 North Liberty Street, West Unity, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 12, 2015 at West Unity Presbyterian Church, 201 East North Street, West Unity, Ohio with Pastor Ric Beals officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Grove Cemetery, West Unity with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the West Unity American Legion Post #669.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions be made to West Unity American Legion Post #669, 1201 East Jackson Street, West Unity, Ohio 43570 or West Unity Senior Center, 509 North Main Street, P.O. Box 241, West Unity, Ohio 43570.
