The Village of Fayette Council joined together for its regular meeting on Wednesday, May 21, at 6:00 p.m.

Following an opening prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance, Council members approved the evening’s agenda and reviewed several sets of meeting minutes.

These included the Council minutes from the April 16 meeting, the Special Session Council minutes from May 14, and the committee as a whole minutes from May 14, as well.

Mayor David Borer read a report from the Fayette PD concerning an event that took place the day prior.

On May 20, 2025, at approximately 6:30 p.m., officers from the Fayette Police Department were made aware of an individual who had an active arrest warrant residing in a home on South Maple Street.

Officers were able to verify the subject was in the home, and safely removed two additional occupants from the residence.

When the officers attempted to make contact with the subject, occupants immediately barricaded themselves in a first-floor bedroom. The subject was possibly in the possession of two firearms.

At this time, the Fayette PD exited the home for their safety and requested additional resources from the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office. They were successful in negotiating a peaceful resolution for all parties involved, subsequently resulting in the arrest of the subject afterward.

The mayor continued on to update the council on his report. He notes that June 14 is scheduled for the town’s annual spring cleanup. Residents are allowed to purchase roll space on the truck for $30 per roll.

Locals can sign up and register at the village office, with a deadline of June 12. The 4th Annual Bull Thistle 5k is scheduled for Saturday, May 24.

The administrator announced continued progress on Phase I of the water line project. Bryan Excavating has returned to the village and began installing main lines around Fayette.

A secondary crew has since begun to work on installing service lines to the businesses and surrounding buildings. A progress meeting is set tentatively for Wednesday, May 28, to schedule further work necessary.

Fiscal Officer, Jessica Swander, announced a new ordinance that was passed earlier in the day — May 21 has been declared Fayette Cookie and Ice Cream Day.

With a mock trial held in the office earlier, with underclassmen attending, students had the opportunity to get a real-life look into what it takes to run a council. They even passed their very own ordinance, Ordinance 2025-11, which officially made the 21st Cookie and Ice Cream Day.

The council approved the hiring of a part-time police officer, Mike Welch. They also granted permits for several upcoming events, including:

-The Memorial Day Parade, will be held on Monday, May 26, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

-A 5K event is scheduled for Saturday, May 24, at 8:00 a.m.

– The Music Fest, is set to take place Friday, June 27.

The next scheduled meeting of the Fayette Village Council is Wednesday, June 4, 2025. With no further business to attend to, the council adjourned the meeting at 6:41 p.m.
