The Metamora Village Council met in regular session on Monday, June 2. The meeting began at 7:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Council members approved the minutes from their previous meeting held on May 19 before moving to hear the mayor’s report. This included the sheriff’s report from April, and information regarding a sidewalk study conducted by Mannik & Smith.
The study evaluated the village’s sidewalks and assigned ratings of excellent, good, fair, or poor. Further discussion is expected once members have reviewed the report in more detail.
Council then approved the purchase of eight bridge markers, and three curved guard rail ends for the Swanton Bridge, following recommendations from the 2024 bridge inspection report. Rust was also noted on the Swanton Street pedestrian bridge which will be looked into.
The VFO’s report followed next, during which it was noted that the annexation completed last November has not yet been recorded with the county.
Once it is, the village will receive an updated zoning map. A brief discussion also took place about branch pick-up procedures following tree removal by a resident.
Council then voted to pay the bills as read before moving into old business. A meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 4 with the county regarding the ongoing 10 Mile Creek clean-up effort.
Also discussed was payment for work done on the village ball diamonds. Council agreed that the individual hired should be paid by the diamond rather than weekly.
A quote of $1,800 was received to remove buildings in poor condition by the recycling center, but discussion was tabled pending more information.
The blue barrels currently stored in those buildings were also mentioned, though concerns were raised due to their containing battery acid. Further research is needed before any sale.
In new business, council reviewed a quote to redo the front office door and paneling at a cost of $3,750. To build a new door and repair the paneling would cost $6,750. Council will seek additional quotes before making a decision.
The zoning report followed next. No updates were available regarding properties at 423 E. Main, 16372 State Route 64, or 1194 Wildflower, as contact has not yet been made with property owners.
Several complaints have been received about tall grass, and letters will be sent in accordance with village ordinances.
At 252 Maple Street, a fence was installed on a neighbor’s property without a permit or permission. A certified letter will be sent to the property owner.
If the fence is to remain on the property line, a variance will be required. Council then approved a motion to purchase parts for the auger and to fix a cable, with the amount not to exceed $600.
Later in the meeting, council entered executive session at 8:03 p.m. to discuss personnel matters. The session ended at 8:30 p.m., with no action taken and the meeting was adjourned at 8:31 p.m.
