One of Fulton County’s largest employers, Sauder Woodworking, is reported to be making staffing changes as the company responds to a slowdown in sales. Nearly 150 positions were affected, which brought the company’s total workforce to under 1,000.
“As part of our strategic efforts to streamline production and align our operations with a recent slowdown in sales, Sauder Woodworking Co. is transitioning to a one‑shift model. Unfortunately, this shift caused a reduction in our workforce, affecting over 150 employees.,” said EVP and Chief Product and Strategy Officer Dan Sauder in a press release.
“We understand the real human impact of this decision, and we’re acting with as much compassion as possible through the reductions. The Sauder Human Resources department is working with the employees to help them through the unemployment process and helping them find other employment opportunities. ”
“We have also partnered with Ohio Means Jobs and Fulton County to ensure affected employees have access to resources, training, and bridge support as they pursue new opportunities. We are grateful to the state and county for this support,” he added.
“Despite short‑term challenges, we believe this restructuring will strengthen our position. By rightsizing our team, expanding into broader market segments, and leveraging our domestic manufacturing scale, we are confident that Sauder will not only survive, but thrive in the face of some very challenging times. ”
“We are committed to serving this business (our employees, our community, and our shareholders) with integrity, care, and purpose. Though there is unavoidable short-term pain, we are confident that our long-term path will drive benefits to the community and stakeholders.”
The company has been a major presence in Archbold for decades, providing steady employment for generations and contributing to local organizations, schools, and community events.
At present, there are indications that resources are being arranged to assist workers who may be impacted, including employment guidance, training opportunities, and other forms of support. Workers seeking assistance can contact the OhioMeansJobs office at 419-337-9215.
Some residents have expressed hope that the situation could improve, allowing positions to be reinstated.
Others have noted the importance of quickly connecting affected workers to new opportunities in order to minimize disruption to families and maintain stability in the local economy.
