PRESS RELEASE – Each March, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics encourages Americans to focus on healthy eating habits during National Nutrition Month®.
The Fulton/Henry County Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) staff will be encouraging families to celebrate the month by “Discovering the Power of Nutrition.” This theme focuses on staying nourished on a limited budget and exploring healthy eating patterns.
Nutrition staff in our local WIC clinic:
-Assess and evaluate WIC participants’ medical and nutritional conditions and habits.
-Provide counseling and education to participants to address specific conditions.
-Answer nutrition-related questions.
-Provide guidance on healthy habits including safe sleep practices, breastfeeding, immunizations, and child development.
-Present nutrition education on multiple subjects.
-Refer participants to food banks, health care and social service agencies, physicians, and other community agencies.
WIC’s goal is to prevent nutrition-related health problems during critical times of growth to improve health outcomes. This comprehensive approach makes the WIC program a cost-effective investment that yields long-term benefits for individuals, families, and communities.
