It is with both joy and sorrow, for a life well lived and a generation passing, that her family announces the death of Marilou Lehnert, 85, Monday morning peacefully during her sleep at Wood Haven Health Care in Bowling Green.

Born (Mary Lou Wise) on April 3, 1930 in Hicksville, Ohio to parents William Hollis and Nellie (Shull) Wise. Marilou was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Knowlton Ralph Lehnert and sisters June (Cooper), Rosalie (Griewahn) and Barbara (DeLine).

Marilou was a 1947 graduate of Hilltop High School in West Unity, Ohio and was married in West Unity to Knowlton in a garden wedding on June 29, 1952.

A past department president of the Ohio American Legion Auxiliary and a life member of Lybarger-Grimm American Post No. 442 in Tontogany, she was steadfast in her love of country and spent a life time devoted to good citizenship and the causes of the Veterans organizations to which she belonged including 40 and 8.

A working woman all her life, she traveled extensively and enjoyed her pets, dancing, playing cards, good conversation, caffeine and cigarettes and was one of the last unapologetic smokers in America. Marilou lived the life that she loved and will be missed.

Marilou is survived by her two sons, David of St. Louis, MO and Larry Key West, FL, three grandchildren Tyler, Connor and Abigail and two sisters Joy Baughman of Butler, IN and Suzanne Sauvel of Angola, IN.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday January 30, 2016 at 11:00am at Peinert-Dunn Funeral Home Tontogany, Ohio, 18620 Washington Street. Visitation will begin on Saturday morning at 9:00am. Following the funeral service there will be a luncheon at Doc’s in Tontogany.
