The Williams County Wilderness Clean Up Project is planning two more chances to make local parks and preserves pristine.

The first is set for 10 a.m. April 9 at the Goldie Newman Wildlife Area. The area is off State Route 15 just north of County Road G. The event is designed to clean the area and raise awareness of the wildlife area.

“A lot of people in the area don’t really know about Goldie Newman, and I am hoping word will spread about it,” Nicholas Jones, clean up project founder, said.

Goldie Newman Wildlife Area is a historic spot in Bryan, and is the first area of land donated to to the community with the intention of becoming a wildlife area.

A lifelong lover of animals, Goldie Newman left the land in order to preserve nature.

The group will next travel to Opdycke Park in Bryan for a May 21 cleanup event. The objective is to spruce up the park before graduation parties commence. The day is also Armed Forces Day and area veterans are encouraged to participate.

Organizers may have hot dogs and drinks for volunteers. The event begins at 10 a.m.

“I plan on getting in touch with the VA to see if we can get some other veterans out there,” Jones said.
