Boy Scout Troop 8 completed an overnight adventure on Saturday, April 9th at Bluespring Caverns Park in Southern Indiana. Participants enjoyed a boat tour through several miles of America’s longest underground river: The Myst’ry River. They also were able to do the “Wild Cave Tour” which required walking, climbing and crawling through an undeveloped part of the cavern not seen on regular tours. This resulted in EVERY participant getting a bit wet and muddy. They were also given a very informative presentation about cave exploration that included information about proper equipment, ropes and knots used for caving. And they were shown a slide presentation describing the history of Bluespring Caverns and the geographic layout of the many passages in the cavern. Some areas take over 9 hours of very difficult travel to get to.
Troop 8 camped overnight in Canyon Hall, inside Bluespring Caverns, deep below the earth’s surface. As part of the overnight adventure program, they were treated to breakfast Sunday morning in Canyon Hall before packing out and breaking into daylight once again. This unique experience gave the scouts some adventure filled memories! All participants agreed that it was worth the several months of planning and many hours of driving required to complete this adventure.
