THE VILLAGE REPORTER

It was a short meeting as far as taking action for the Williams County Commissioners April 18.

The commissioners passed a few resolutions and spoke with students from Montpelier High School who joined peers from other schools in touring the courthouse.

The commissioners’ top action was directing the auditor to certify the dollar amount of revenue a 0.1 mill increase in the levy for Ohio State University Extension would generate. OSU Extension for Williams County wants to put a millage increase before voters this fall.

The new levy of 0.4 mill would be for five years, beginning in 2017, but not payable until 2018. Revenues would fund educational activities, agriculture, natural resources and 4-H programs.

The commissioners rescinded one resolution they approved earlier this year and replaced it with another following changes to the sick leave form. The new resolution amends the work schedule and lunch break policy, sick leave donated program and new forms.

The commissioners also moved $35,183 to a fund covering capital assets -vehicles.

The Montpelier contingent included Dawn Smith’s government class. Topics discussed included the absence of term limits on county boards, the rarity of a commissioner serving more than three terms and taxes. Commissioners have been asking students as they come in about whether they are registered to vote, if they have jobs and if they have noticed how much taxes have been taken out of their paychecks.
