Blaze Resendez, fifth grade, is the EdonMiddle School winner of the National Missing Children’s Day Poster Contest. His poster will now compete with the rest of the fifth grade entries from Ohio for a chance to compete at the national level.
Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Justice ~ Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) ~ the annual National Missing Children’s Day Poster Contest provides teachers and parents with tools to educate students about safety and the prevention of child abductions. The contest also creates an opportunity for schools, law enforcement and other child advocates to engage fifth graders in informative discussions where they can explore the importance of the contest’s theme “Bring Our Missing Children Home.”
Once selected, each state winner entered into the national judging competition will receive a special award certificate from the Department of Justice; the national winner will be invited to Washington, D.C. to participate in Missing Children’s Day ceremonies in May 2013 and to accept his/her award for the winning artwork.
Blaze, as well as other classmates, participated in the contest coordinated by Mrs. Ann Eyster, Edon Northwest Local Schools Art teacher.
