Tim Meister, Superintendent Four County Career Center, spoke to the Stryker Rotary Club at their regular meeting on Tuesday May 17th. Tim started in his position in 2012 when the school was just beginning a construction project for the entrance. This was the first major construction project since the school was built in 1968. The project provided needed space while addressing safety concerns of the building entrance. The project was completed in 2013. Four County Career Center currently offers 30 programs to an enrolment of nearly 1,000 students. The facility serves 22 school districts covering a footprint of just over 1,625 square miles. The school employs 167 staff members. The students from this school have won five national competitions for work done in their respective fields. Tim said the focus of the school is on workforce development, and many students are in programs where they earn credits while employed. The school is planning to increase the number of students who are in a job placement role. The students are all required to wear uniforms during the school day, and those who are unable to bear the cost of uniforms are able to get assistance from an Endowment Fund designed for that purpose. The staff has supported the endowment fund along with donors and some fund raising activity. Tim said he felt the school did a very good job in getting students ready for the workplace, but each year the staff continue to make improvements. Larry also told the club that he and other staff member strive to teach the students what will be expected of them in the workplace including interaction with fellow employees and customers.
