While some people may have been scared off by the threat of rain, the Lyons Area Historical Society’s 25th anniversary party went as planned.
The event celebrated the founding of the society in 1991 and gave members a chance to say thanks to the community for its support. At least 100 people attended the event at Community Park.
Those who attended got to listen to hours of free music, eat free food and even get a free blood pressure check from the Royalton Township Fire Department.
There was a vendor’s area where people could purchase crafts, view informational snapshots of local businesses and otherwise fellowship. The framed informational snapshots describe the history of the buildings of several businesses in town.
They will be given to the current businesses to display to customers, Society President Mary Cooan said.
The turnout was a bit of a disappointment for Cooan, who had more than food for the attendees.
There was also a Kids Zone where youngsters could play games and do crafts. Volunteers said they saw a handful of children as the crowd was mostly 45 or older.
Musical entertainment included local bands such as Hand Hewn and The Galbraith Clan.
