Delta School Board Hears Progress Reports From Principals

Recommendation from the Superintendent to approve the following:
A. Personnel
1. Jolene Kopena Spanish Teacher 1 Year Contract Step 2 MA+30 Part-Time
2. Resignation
a. Jolene Kopena Part- Time Spanish Teacher Effective June 30, 2017
3. Supplemental Contracts
a. Daniel Carrizales Head MS Wrestling Coach

4. Volunteers

6. Increase in Substitute Pay
a. Substitute Teacher Rate – Rate is based on consecutive days worked in same position. 1-10 days $90/day; 11-30 days $100/day; 31-59 days $110/day
b. Substitute Custodial Rate increase $10.10/hour

Pike-Delta-York FFA Chapter (nine students) and Mr. Leininger will travel to Indianapolis to attend the National FFA Convention on Oct. 19-22. School transportation will be used for the field trip. The expenses for the field trip will be funded through donations from local agri-businesses, fundraising activities, Career Technical Education Funds, and direct charge to students attending.

C. Revised 6th Grade Fees for the 2016-2017 school year.

Recommendation to accept contract with NwOESC for extended school year services for student with special needs at a total cost of $315.

Elementary School report
The percentage of students not on track for the Third-Grade Reading Guarantee shows some progress, a diagnostic test shows.

First Grade – 2015-16 – 15%,
2016-17 – 9%
Second Grade – 2015-16 – 11%,

Third Grade – 2015-16 – 24%,

Withdrawn – 32

School officials are packing 56 backpacks for Coach Cory’s Backpack program. This serves 99 children, up from 79 last year.

Middle School
Staff for Panther Den, an after school program will be paid by a grant through NWOESC. Planning sessions are underway with the opening set for Oct. 10. Family Fun night planned at Johnston’s Fruit Farm.

High School
Twenty-eight students from Ag courses competed in the Fulton Soil and Water Conservation District’s annual Soil Judging Contest. Sixteen were scheduled to go onto the district’s in Napoleon.
Eight students from the Student Council for a leadership conference at Defiance College.
About 120 students are in fall sports.
