“Coffee With A Cop” Event Coming To Wauseon

October 10, 2016Updated:November 30, 2016No Comments2 Mins Read

On October 7, 2016, officers from the Wauseon Police Department and community members will come together in an informal, neutral space to discuss community issued, build relationships, and drink coffee. All community members are invited to attend. The event will be from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM at the Biggby Coffee at 480 E Airport Hwy, Wauseon.

Coffee with a Cop provides a unique opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about the departments. The majority of contacts law enforcement has with the public occurs during emergencies or emotionally charged situations. Those are not always the most effective times for relationship building and some community members may feel officers are unapproachable on the street. Coffee with a Cop helps break down those barriers and allows for a relaxed, one-on-one interaction.

“This program is another fine example of our department’s commitment to strengthening our relationship with our community. Coffee with a Cop creates a welcoming environment where members of our community can personally meet the fine men and women of their police department to ask questions and share community concerns. Equally notable is the commitment of Biggby Coffee. Their participation solidifies the Wauseon Police Department’s overall goal to promote partnerships and public safety.” said Wauseon Police Chief Keith Torbet.

Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative supported by The United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Similar events are being held across the country, as local police departments strive to make lasting connections with the communities they serve. The program aims to advance the practice of community policing through improving relationships between police officers and community members, “one cup of coffee at a time”.
